WHEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR EYE EXAMINED?

The American Optometric Association, in their recently published Clinical Practice Guideline, advise that you get your eyes examined according to the following schedule to minimize eye health risks and maximize your vision:

 

Patient Age

If No Vision Problems

If You Wear Glasses
or Have a Vision Problem

Birth to 24 months

By 6 months of age

By 6 months of age or per Doctor's instructions

2 to 5 years

At 3 years of age

At 3 years of age or per Doctor's instructions

6 to 18 years

Before first grade and every two years thereafter

Annually or per Doctor's instructions

10 to 40 years

Every two to three years

Annually or per Doctor's instructions

41 to 60 years

Every two years

Annually or per Doctor's instructions

61 and over

Annually

Annually or per Doctor's instructions
