GUIDING PRINCIPLES

UAB Optometry Clinical Services' "Guiding Principles" serve as the foundation for conduct throughout the facility. We are a team and recognize that successful achievement of these principles will require long-term commitment.

Patient Service -
We make the quality of our services to patients and others our number one priority.
We recognize that we relate to many internal and external entities and will strive to meet their needs and exceed their expectations.
We seek and support new and innovative ways to create added value to our services.

Leadership -
We promote trust and understanding through integrity, consistency, and open communication.
We promote management practices which empower people to improve their work processes.
We view problems not as an occasion to find fault but rather as an opportunity to identify processes for improvement.
We are committed to the elimination of barriers which have the effect of adding cost through waste, rework, and needless complexity.

Faculty, Interns, and Staff -
We recognize our faculty, interns, and staff as being our most valuable asset.
We respect the value of each individual and recognize the importance of each individual's contribution as a member of the team.
We want all persons to have a clear understanding of their jobs and their individual roles in improving quality.
We encourage and support development of each individual by supporting training, education and research in an integrated learning environment.

Methods -
We will use data and statistical methods to guide our decision making and to improve our processes.
We seek to continuously improve our processes through reduction in variation.

Recognition -
We will recognize efforts toward improvement and innovation.
We will take time to celebrate our successes.
