Discussion

The committee members reported on their experiences with the scheduled user group meetings. Several common themes emerged as members detailed what they had found. These include:
A widespread need for systematic user training
Identification of the users of the system
Easier user access, i.e., how to set up workstations to get on the system
A need for system documentation
The existence of multiple ancillary databases that require duplicate data entry
The need for electronic transfer of data
Processes that require passing hard copies of information among multiple users
Student access to information

The committee reviewed that proposals that had been submitted via the web site for changes in the form and additional information that would make the process of reviewing the proposals easier.

Recommendations

Khris McAlister recommended that the SISMAC develop a set of specific goals that we would submit to the Provost's office for consideration as institutional guiding principles for ongoing development of the SIS. These should be incorporated into the individual proposals that the committee will consider.

Actions

David Corliss will modify the proposal submission form on the web site to enable the person submitting a proposal to indicate the specific area affected by a proposal and the specific system goals the proposal is designed to meet.

The user group liaisons will continue to meet with users to learn more about the system and develop specific proposals.

The committee will continue to monitor proposals as they are submitted.

The computer center will provide information on the people in the computer center who are the experts in specific areas. They will also provide a global view of the components of the SIS and their interactions.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 17, 1997 in the Reynolds Library, LHL. Subsequent meetings will occur each Thursday at the same time.
